Belarus to help fight wildfires in Turkey in 2020

MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) – Belarusian firefighters will help battle wildfires in Turkey in 2020, Belarus Emergencies Minister Vladimir Vashchenko told journalists, BelTA has learned.

“Last year we took part in humanitarian operations and delivered humanitarian aid to Syria, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. We continued assisting in fighting wildfires. In 2019, two Belarusian crews worked in Turkey, one from 1 June to 1 November and the other from 1 July to 1 November. This year we will sign another agreement and will help battle wildfires in Turkey from 1 May till late autumn,” Vladimir Vashchenko said. “Greece sought our assistance too, but a Greek company failed to win the tender,” he added.

Careful attention is paid to training of rescuers. “Last year we did a good job ensuring safety during the 2nd European Games. We also took part in drills, including international ones, and received only positive assessment,” Vladimir Vashchenko noted.
