Belarus to get S-300 battalion, four Yak-130 aircraft from Russia by year end

MOSCOW, 6 April (BelTA) – By the end of the year Belarus will get a battalion of S-300 air defense systems and four combat and training aircraft Yak-130 from Russia. The information was released by Major-General Oleg Dvigalev, Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Belarusian army, after the session of the Air Defense Coordinating Committee under the CIS Defense Ministers Council in Tver, Russia on 6 April, BelTA has learned.

According to Oleg Dvigalev, the delivery of four S-300 air defense missile battalions from Russia is nearly over. The air defense systems will become part of the regional air defense system. Three battalions are already in Belarus while the fourth one is on its way.

The officer also noted that the contract on buying Yak-130 combat and training aircraft is being fulfilled. The first four of them (one wing) has already entered service in the Belarusian army. “We expect to get another four aircraft by the end of the year. Apart from that, contracts on buying Russian radar stations for radio electronic warfare troops are being fulfilled,” said the Major-General.

“We are vigorously advancing cooperation in the area of operational training. Together with Russia we continue improving the united regional air defense system,” stressed Oleg Dvigalev.
