Belarus to build 1,850 social apartments using technical assistance from China in 2018

MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) – This year Belarus plans to build 1,850 social apartments using technical and economic assistance from China, Alexander Gorval, Head of the Housing Policy Office of the Belarusian Architecture and Construction Ministry, said during the roundtable in BelTA's press center.

Plans are in place to build nearly 700 apartments for budget money. Some 326 apartments were commissioned in the first quarter of 2018.

In general, Br4.26 billion will be allocated in 2018 to finance housing construction projects, of which Br646 million will be spent on concessional loans.

“In view of the fact that we are planning to increase the annual volume of construction by 500,000 m2, the volume of funds on concessional lending will exceed Br1 billion in 2020, and the volume of financing in general will total Br6 billion,” Alexander Gorval said.

According to Alexander Avramenko, the head of the Housing Policy Department of the Minsk City Hall, 17 categories of citizens are entitled to social housing. These are the families whose income does not allow them to acquire an apartment even through a concessional loan. At present, the waiting list for such apartments in Minsk features about 1,000 people.
