Belarus to attend UN Habitat III Conference

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarus will attend the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development Habitat III which is due to take place in Quito, Ecuador, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ecuador to Belarus Carlos Humberto Larrea Davila told a press conference in Minsk on 26 September, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian delegation will be led by Deputy Architecture and Construction Minister Dmitry Semenkevich. Attending the conference will be representatives of 193 countries. The forum will approve a new urban development agenda for the next 20 years.

“The conference is held to reiterate the political commitments regarding sustainable urban development and also to assess the results that have already been achieved in the area,” the Ambassador noted. In his words, the forum will be a unique opportunity to discuss the matters related to the management of cities and villages around the globe.

Carlos Humberto Larrea Davila also shared his impressions of the Belarusian cities. In his words, they are an example of ecological stability and urbanistic organization. “I am impressed with the distribution of villages across the country, the progress in the construction of agro-towns. I think this example should be analyzed,” he added.
