Belarus takes part in ISF Schools Winter Games 2018 opening ceremony

GRENOBLE, 7 February (BelTA) – Belarusian students took part in the official opening ceremony of the ISF Schools Winter Games 2018 in Grenoble, France on 6 February, BelTA informs.

The Belarusian delegation is led by Director of Belarus' National Center of Physical Education and Sports for Pupils and Students Vitaly Strigelsky. He emphasized the importance of Belarus' participation in the sport forum. “The schools games are the initial phase in the development of the children's sport where children get experience in international competitions. In the future all the children that take part in the Schools Winter Games will represent our country at other different competitions. The experience they will gain here is invaluable,” the head of the delegation stressed.

The opening ceremony of the ISF Schools Winter Games was attended by representatives of 20 countries, a total of about 600 athletes. Among the participating countries are England, Hungary, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, France, Chile, Scotland, Switzerland, and Estonia. Belarus will field 11 students who will compete in biathlon, Alpine skiing and curling.

The competition program will start on 7 February. “Our biathletes, Alpine skiers and curlers are well prepared. I am confident that our children will show good results and represent Belarus at the competitions at a decent level,” said Vitaly Strigelsky.

The Schools Winter Games are held under the auspices of the International School Sport Federation (ISF). Belarus joined the ISF in 2012. Belarus participated in the ISF Schools Winter Games in Brazil in 2013 and in Turkey in 2016. Belarus won a total of 14 medals, including eight gold medals.
