MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – Belarus is set to develop more than 80 new highly-effective drugs in the next five years, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said when speaking at the 5th Belarusian People's Congress, BelTA has learned.
“We will create a high-tech sector by accelerating the development of the pharmaceutical and biotech manufactures. The market of medicines in the Eurasian Economic Union is huge, around $20 billion. A large part of drugs, even the most basic ones, is imported from third countries. We need effective, safe, high-quality medicines. We need to develop more than 80 new highly-effective drugs, including those holding a significant share in imports, and increase the share of exports to at least 40% of total output,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
He also noted that Belarus will also develop a new industrial complex to manufacture sophisticated medical equipment: x-ray equipment, chemical and electron-optical analyzers,” the President said.
