Belarus-Serbia cooperation in fighting cybercrimes looks promising

MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – There is a lot of promise in cooperation with the Serbian Interior Ministry in counteracting cybercrimes. Belarusian Interior Minister Igor Shunevich made the statement after meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister of Serbia Nebojsa Stefanovic, BelTA has learned.

Igor Shunevich said: “We are strongly interested in the dynamic advancement of relations between the law enforcement agencies of our countries. The most serious challenges and threats to the national security of Belarus and Serbia are identical these days, this is why I believe cooperation in the counteraction of cybercrimes, trafficking in persons, drugs trafficking, and organized crime to be very promising. Cooperation between our special units in charge of fighting terrorism, ensuring traffic safety and public security also looks promising. We are ready to work together in the broadest range of cooperation avenues.”

The minister noted that the meeting was a logical continuation of the Belarusian Interior Ministry delegation's visit to Serbia in spring 2017.

In turn, Nebojsa Stefanovic thanked the Belarusian side for the warm welcome and for the opportunity to get familiar with peculiarities of police work in Belarus, in particular, during the tour of the Belarusian counterterrorism unit Almaz. “Those are high-class professionals, who already tightly cooperate with our special counterterrorism unit. We are interested in working together in all spheres, in arranging exchange programs for students of law enforcement universities. We are interested in establishing direct contacts between specialists,” he said. “All of that would contribute to stronger security of our countries and will make the counteraction of common threats more effective.”

The sides authorized for signing a memorandum of understanding between the Belarusian and Serbian interior ministries in organizing the recreation of law enforcement personnel and their children.
