MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Belarusian and Russian scientists will work out technologies to reduce the mass and the size of satellites as part of the Union State program Technology-SG, BelTA learned from Oleg Penyazkov, Director of the A.V. Lykov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, on 23 May.
According to the source, the new program of the Union State of Belarus and Russia has already started. It will focus on a number of new technologies and processes that will allow reducing the mass-dimensional parameters of satellites. “Figuratively speaking, a kilogram of a satellite is a kilogram of gold. The less the satellite weighs, the more effective it will be and the easier launching it will be. These R&D efforts will allow making telecommunication and information technologies more affordable and more accessible for every one of us,” noted Oleg Penyazkov.
The Union State program provides for creating new materials, sensors, and motors that will allow controlling the orientation of small satellites.
“In five years our efforts should result in products that will be utilized by the aerospace industry. They will allow increasing its competitive ability and effectiveness,” concluded the Director of the A.V. Lykov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute.
Technology-SG is an R&D program of the Union State of Belarus and Russia that focuses on the development of integrated technologies to create materials, devices and key components of spacecraft in addition to promising products for other industries.
