Belarus receives copies of deportation orders of Austrian Jews killed in Trostenets

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – Austrian historian Hubert Steiner gave Belarus the copies of the deportation orders from the Austrian State Archives containing the names of the Austrian Jews who were killed by the Nazis in the concentration camp Trostenets, BelTA learnt from the Embassy of Belarus in Austria.

Hubert Steiner's visit to Minsk on 15-20 January has been organized by the Belarusian embassy in Austria. For many years the historian and referent of the Austrian State Archives has studied the deportation of Austrian Jews to the death camp Trostenets during the Second World War.

While in Belarus, Hubert Steiner will hold talks with representatives of the Archives and Record Keeping Department of the Justice Ministry, the National Archives and the authors of a collection of documents and materials “Trostenets Death Camp” that will be published in Belarus soon.

The Austrian historian will visit the Khatyn Memorial and will be given a tour around the site of the future memorial complex at the place of the extermination camp Trostenets. The Austrian historian is also expected to give a lecture to representatives of the Belarusian archives sector.
