MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) - If necessary, Belarus will share its experience in dealing with the effects of a radiation accident, Belarusian Emergencies Minister Vladimir Vashchenko said at the international high-level conference, titled as Thirty Years After Chernobyl. From Emergency to Revival and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development of Affected Territories, in Minsk on 25 April, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine jointly with the UN institutions have accumulated unique knowledge and experience in mitigating the consequences of a radiation accident. We have developed good practices to ensure the transition from recovery to development. When necessary Belarus will share this valuable experience with other states,” the Minister said.
The Minister added that Belarus' state policy on Chernobyl provides for the transition from post-accident and rehabilitation measures to the socio-economic development of the affected areas. For this, he said, special projects have been implemented to introduce modern technologies, upgrade production facilities and create new capacities.
“Such projects contribute to real economic development of the affected areas, help create additional jobs and improve the quality of life of people,” Vladimir Vashchenko said.
