Belarus ready to share experience in IHL implementation

MINSK, 1 December (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to share its experience in the implementation of international humanitarian law (IHL), Belarusian Justice Minister Oleg Slizhevsky, who chairs the Commission on Implementation of International Humanitarian Law under the Council of Ministers of Belarus, said during the Fourth Universal Meeting of National Committees and Similar Bodies on IHL in Geneva, BelTA learned from Olga Murashkovskaya, the spokesperson for the Justice Ministry.

Oleg Slizhevsky presented Belarus' experience in the implementation of IHL into the national legislation and the priority activities of the Belarusian commission. The minister stressed the importance of international cooperation in this area, noted that Belarus is ready to share its experience and invited everyone present to study Belarus' practices.

By attending such large-scale international forums, Belarus promotes its image as a country that places a high priority on international security and strengthening of international cooperation in humanitarian affairs.

The international forum opened on 30 November and will run for three days. The forum considers ways to enhance protection in armed conflict through domestic law and policy. Partaking in the meeting are representatives of the countries that have national committees on IHL and also those countries that have not yet established such committees.
