Belarus ready to help Russia with investigating Kemerovo fire

MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – Belarusian investigators are ready to provide assistance to the Russian colleagues with the Kemerovo tragedy investigation, First Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Investigative Committee Aleksei Volkov told the media as he visited the Russian Embassy in Belarus on 28 March, BelTA has learned.

“We have not received any requests for assistance from our Russian colleagues. However, we are ready to provide them with any kind of help if need be to investigate this tragedy and the criminal case,” Aleksei Volkov noted.

In his words, what has happened in Kemerovo is a horrible tragedy and a great grief for the people. “We, investigators, deal with human troubles every day, but so many children among the victims… It is hard to even think about how deep is the sorrow of the families and parents,” the official remarked.

On behalf of the Investigative Committee, he offered deepest condolences to the people of Russia and the families and close ones of the victims.

The Russian Embassy in Minsk opened the Book of Condolences to commemorate the Kemerovo shopping mall fire victims. On 28 March, the Russian diplomatic mission was visited by several tens of citizens, heads of Belarusian ministries and government bodies, parliament, international organizations, representatives of Belaya Rus public association, the Belarusian Union of Women and the BRSM Youth Union, and heads of several foreign embassies in Belarus.
