Belarus' progress on SDGs to be reviewed in Minsk on 15 November

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) - Belarus' achievements on the way towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDLs) and the expected results by 2030 will be considered at the seminar “Sustainable Development Goals - implementation at the national and regional levels” due in Minsk on 15 November, BelTA learned from the UNDP press service.

The seminar will focus on the development of the national system of indicators to monitor the SDGs, their implementation in the economic, environmental and social fields, the main approaches to the national strategy for sustainable socio-economic development of Belarus in the context of the SDGs.

The event will be attended by senior officials of several ministries, the National Statistics Committee, and representatives of local authorities, the scientific community, the public and international organizations, businesses, and international experts. They will get acquainted with Belarusian and foreign local sustainable development strategies, discuss the partnership between the state, business and civil society in achieving the SDGs. Special attention will be attached to the localization of the sustainable development goals.

The seminar will also host the presentation of the publication “Belarus' starting positions with regard to the Sustainable Development Goals.” Marianna Shchetkina, Deputy Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, National Coordinator for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus Sanaka Samarasinha will present the country's step-by-step path to the results already achieved.

To promote the sustainable development, the national versions of the UN SDG logos were developed in Belarus (in Russian, Belarusian and English). The national version of the logo will be unveiled during the event.

The seminar will be held as part of the program “Support to the National Coordinator on Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals and Strengthening the Role of the Parliament in the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals” which is financed by the UN Development Program. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the national executing agency. The project partners are the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly and the National Statistics Committee of Belarus. The event has been included into the plan of action of the Sustainable Development Council.
