Belarus presents its domestic violence response practices at IPU Assembly in Geneva

MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – Marianna Shchetkina, Deputy Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, Chairwoman of the Belarusian Women's Union, presented the practices used in Belarus to counter domestic violence at the 135th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva. The information is posted on the website of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament, BelTA has learned.

Marianna Shchetkina delivered a focused report on domestic violence and its prevention. She spoke about the national practices of countering this phenomenon and the role of the parliament in developing a legislative response to the problem.

Belarusian MPs participate in drafting a resolution to promote women's full and effective participation in political processes and establish cooperation between men and women in attaining this goal.

Marianna Shchetkina held bilateral meetings with members of parliamentary delegations of Russia, Armenia, Ireland, Latvia and Pakistan on the sidelines of the IPU Assembly.

The Vice Speaker will be in Switzerland till 29 October.
