Belarus' population at 9,505,200 as of 1 October 2016

MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) – According to the latest data, the number of people who live in Belarus totaled 9,505,200 as of 1 October 2016, BelTA learned from the Belarusian National Statistics Committee.

Migration into the country remains the key factor behind the rising population numbers in Belarus. In January-September 2016 Belarus welcomed 6,281 migrants. Natural increase made up 518 people.

In January-September 2016, 89,434 babies were born (up by 0.5% or 455 babies); 88,916 people died, down 1,825 as compared with January-September 2015.

Belarus has migration exchange mainly with the CIS countries. In January-September 2016 Belarus welcomed 11,381 people from these countries, with 93% of them coming from Russia, Ukraine, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. Likewise, people who left Belarus mainly went to the CIS countries. Their share in the total number of people who moved out of Belarus amounted to 69.9%, with 67.8% moving to Russia.
