Belarus, Poland urged to step up cooperation in education

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – I hope for more active cooperation with Polish universities, Rector of Belarusian State University (BSU) Sergei Ablameiko told reporters after the meeting of Marshal of the Senate of Poland Stanislaw Karczewski with BSU students on 6 December.

“Belarus and Poland are two neighboring countries with similar cultures. We need to step up our cooperation, learn from each other. We believe that the visit of Marshal of the Senate of Poland Stanislaw Karczewski to Belarus will give an impetus to the cooperation that has not seen much progress in the previous years,” Sergei Ablameiko said.

The BSU Rector noted that the agreement on scientific cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Polish Academy of Sciences will promote the development of the cooperation, same as the recently ratified Belarusian-Polish agreement on cooperation in education. Sergei Ablameiko hopes that Belarus and Poland will conduct more educational exchanges and joint projects in the future.

BSU presently cooperates with many Polish universities and has cooperation agreements with 33 educational establishments and research organizations. Over a hundred professors from Polish universities deliver lectures at BSU every year. The university exchanges students and participates in joint research projects.

Marshal of the Senate of Poland Stanislaw Karczewski visited the philology department of Belarusian State University on 6 December. He met with BSU students to tell about his life and give advice. For instance, he thinks that young people need to be involved in public life more actively to develop their leadership qualities.
