Belarus' MP criticizes Euronews for using eccentric, ungrounded statements

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – In an interview with a BelTA journalist, Chairman of the Education, Culture and Science Commission of the House of Representatives, Doctor of Science [History], Professor Igor Marzalyuk commented on the Euronews video dedicated to the recent elections in Belarus.

Igor Marzalyuk noted that as a scientist he would like to know the grounds for the attention-grabbing statements featured in the video. “I would like to know what opinion polls they are based on. It is wrong to cite such quotes,” the MP believes.

He added that people who make such statements know nothing about the public sentiment in the Belarusian society. “The tragedy of fake opposition is that it cannot accumulate even hypothetical dissatisfaction in some social groups, just because it fails to reach out to people,” he said.

The MP added that during the election campaign he and his team staged many campaign events. “The absolute majority of Belarusians are sensible people who want normal evolutionary changes, calm and prosperity, strengthening of the country's sovereignty,” he said.
