Belarus, Moldova to hold contest of joint R&D projects

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) - The State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus (SCST) and the National Agency for Research and Development of Moldova (NARD) will hold a contest of joint R&D projects in 2019-2020 in the following priority areas: new products and technology, energy and energy efficiency, medicine and biomedicine, and biotechnology. The parties signed an inter-departmental agreement on cooperation in science in Chisinau on 7 June, BelTA learned from the SCST press service.

The document was signed by Chairman of the Belarusian State Committee on Science and Technology Alexander Shumilin, and Director General of Moldova's National Agency for Research and Development Viorika Boagui.

Belarus and Moldova are set to facilitate the cooperation between scientific organizations and assist research teams in the key areas of bilateral scientific, technological and innovation interaction. “Thanks to the agreement we will enable to hold a contest of joint R&D projects in 2018 and to intensify the joint participation of the Belarusian and Moldavian scientists as part of the EU Framework Program for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020,” Alexander Shumilin stressed. Currently, four projects with participation of Belarusian and Moldovan scientific organizations are underway as part of Horizon 2020.

In recent years, Belarusian-Moldovan cooperation in the field of science and innovation has been growing rapidly. Since 2010 the two countries have implemented over 60 joint projects in the field of nano- and bio-technology, physics, biology, medicine, environmental management, genetics, agricultural sciences, etc. Belarus' export of high-tech products to Moldova rose by 36% over the last three years. Belarus' major exports are tractors and vehicles, medical preparations.

the Belarusian delegation led by Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology Alexander Shumilin attended the 19th meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Moldovan Commission for trade, economic cooperation in Chisinau on 6-7 June.

In accordance with Resolution No. 196 of the government of Moldova of 28 February 2018 the National Agency for Research and Development has been authorized to implement the national policy of Moldova in the field of research, development and innovation, sectoral strategies. The Agency has also assumed the functions of selection, appraisal and financing of programs and projects within the framework of the public national and international competitions.
