Belarus' MFA checking on any Belarusians among Japan quake victims

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) - The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in touch with the local authorities checking whether any Belarusian nationals are among the victims of the recent earthquakes in Japan, Spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told BelTA.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following the situation and checking if there are any Belarusian nationals among the victims,” said Dmitry Mironchik.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, two powerful earthquakes rocked Japan on Monday, 26 September. The first one with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 rattled off the southern coast of Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost main island. The second one with a preliminary magnitude of 6 occurred off the coast of Okinawa, at the depth of 40 kilometers below the sea surface. No tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
