Belarus may build spa resort in Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast

MINSK, 15 November (BelTA) – A Belarusian spa resort can be built in Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast, Kaliningrad Oblast Governor Anton Alikhanov said in an interview to the ONT TV channel as he commented on his visit to Belarus, BelTA has learned.

“We have agreed to develop cooperation in tourism. We have outlined a number of projects. Taking into account Belarus' experience in the implementation of spa resort projects, we would like to invite Belarusian specialists to build a Belarusian spa resort in Kaliningrad Oblast,” the governor noted.

According to Anton Alikhanov, a wide range of issues were discussed during the meetings with the Belarusian authorities. They included the construction of the Belarusian district in Kaliningrad and cooperation in agriculture. “We also talked about land reclamation and asked for additional help from Belarus in the issue. We enjoy long-standing cooperation in the farming sector. A number of gardens were laid out with the use of the Belarusian planting stock. We are also interested in Belarus' fruit crop storing and processing practices,” he said.

As BelTA earlier reported, the decision was taken at the meeting of the council on long-term cooperation between Belarus and Kaliningrad Oblast to reach the bilateral trade of $500 million. There are also plans to launch direct flights between Kaliningrad and the Belarusian oblast centers.
