Belarus, Latvia seek to make border crossing faster

VITEBSK, 27 June (BelTA) – A survey will be conducted to determine what stage of crossing the Belarusian-Latvian border is more time consuming. The survey will be done in the second half of 2016, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian State Customs Committee Alexander Bogdevich told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“We agreed to poll all people who cross our border checkpoints in the second half of this year. We will ask everyone: individuals, cargo forwarders. This measure will apply to all means of transport. Then we will get together and discuss the results of the survey,” Alexander Bogdevich noted.

In his words, the same was done on the border with Poland in 2014. The move helped reduce the average time a truck spends at a border checkpoint.

On 27 June the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee played host to a meeting of the commission on operation and coordinated development of checkpoints on the Belarusian-Latvian state border.
