Belarus-Latvia joint art exhibition to open in Vitebsk

MINSK, 15 November (BelTA) – The exhibition “Viktoria Pelshe, Dmitry Lavrentyev, Leonid Medvedsky, Vladimir Makarkov – Four Banks of One River” featuring Belarusian and Latvian artists will go on display in Vitebsk, BelTA learned from the Marc Chagall Museum.

The project is timed to Latvia Days in Vitebsk and will be presented at the Marc Chagall Art Center on 29 November. Latvian artists Viktoria Pelshe and Dmitry Lavrentyev and Belarusian artists Leonid Medvedsky and Vladimir Makarkov have cooperated for a long time, arranging joint exhibitions in Latvia and Belarus. Viktoria Pelshe is a prominent Latvian sculptor. Her works combine sensual forms, romanticism, and neoclassical features and perspectives. Dmitry Lavrentyev's works are both laconic and exaggerated and stand out thanks to simple forms and sophisticated color schemes. Vladimir Makarkov focuses on logical connections between images and combines various techniques. Leonid Medvedsky's landscapes and portraits reflect the stillness and dynamics of nature and a person's inner world.

The title of the exhibition “Four Banks of One River” refers to the Western Dvina, or Daugava River that flows through Belarus and Latvia.

The exhibition has been organized with support of the Latvian Consulate in Vitebsk and will be running from 24 November to 15 December.
