Belarus, Jordan sign military and technical cooperation roadmap

MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – During the third session of the joint committee on military and technical cooperation in Amman Belarus and Jordan signed a roadmap that will guide interaction between the two countries till 2020, the press service of the State Defense Industries Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

A Belarusian delegation led by Gennady Smolsky visited Jordan on 21-25 August. Gennady Smolsky is the Deputy Chairman of the State Defense Industries Committee of Belarus, chairman of the Belarusian part of the Belarus-Jordan committee on military and technical cooperation.

The sides confirmed their interest in further stepping up mutually beneficial military and technical cooperation between the two countries. Representatives of Belarus and Jordan analyzed results of fulfilling the arrangements made during the previous session, discussed ways to improve and further develop the international legal base of the bilateral military and technical cooperation. The sides also talked over practical aspects of implementing joint projects and determined a future cooperation plan.

Apart from that, the sides signed a protocol and a roadmap on military and technical cooperation between the State Defense Industries Committee of Belarus and the General Staff of the Jordanian army for 2017-2020. The document specifies guidelines for stepping up military and technical cooperation.

The Belarusian side invited Jordanian partners to visit the eighth international armaments and military hardware expo MILEX 2017 that will take place in Minsk in May 2017 for the sake of getting familiar with capabilities of Belarusian defense industries and for discussing promising avenues of cooperation.

The Belarusian delegation also visited a number of royal R&D enterprises in Jordan.

The committee's next session is scheduled to take place in Minsk in April 2017.

As part of the visit the head of the Belarusian delegation met with Prince Faisal bin Hussein, special aide to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian army. The sides confirmed mutual interest in further advancing military and technical cooperation. The availability of a certain potential for expanding cooperation was noted.

An agreement on military and technical cooperation between the governments of Belarus and Jordan is in effect. The document was signed on 11 July 2008. It determines the main avenues and forms of cooperation in this sphere.
