Belarus, Israel intend to revive joint committee on tourism

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – The joint Belarusian-Israeli committee on tourism is expected to resume its work soon, Belarus' Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Mikhail Portnoy said in an interview with BelTA.

The Belarusian delegation led by Mikhail Portnoy is in Israel on a visit on 8-11 February. The Belarusian representatives held a wide-ranging presentation of the country's tourism potential at the international Mediterranean tourism expo in Tel Aviv.

"At a meeting with Israeli Tourism Minister Yariv Levin we discussed the ways of intensifying bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector in the light of new opportunities. These opportunities emerged when Belarus and Israel abolished visa requirements in November 2015,” said Mikhail Portnoy. “We also discussed reviving the joint Belarusian-Israeli committee on tourism, which has been on hiatus since 2012. Israel is expected to make appointments to the committee soon. The Belarusian side considers this an important and timely step,” he noted.

In Tel Aviv Mikhail Portnoy also held substantive talks with representatives of the local tourist companies, business, and the Belarusian Diaspora. Mikhail Portnoy gave an interview to local journalists and became a guest in the Hero of the Day program on one of the Israeli TV channels.
