Belarus invites Serbia to implement joint information projects

MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – Belarus has invited Serbia to implement joint projects in the field of information, the Belarusian Information Ministry told BelTA.

A Belarusian delegation led by Information Minister Lilia Ananich met with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on 25 October. During the meeting, Lilia Ananich noted that today information is frequently used for destructive purposes, so it is necessary to do everything possible to strengthen the bridge of information cooperation and good neighborliness between Belarus and Serbia.

“Lilia Ananich noted that it is time to launch a Belarusian-Serbian information project to boost cooperation in television, Internet, and in the promotion of international satellite TV channels of Belarus and Serbia,” the ministry said.

Belarus will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing in 2017. In this context, Lilia Ananich and Tomislav Nikolic discussed the possibility of holding a joint Belarusian-Serbian scientific conference as part of the International Belgrade Book Fair. “Belarusian and Serbian writers, academics, scholars, and researchers are ready to take an active part in this conference. We already have experience in the implementation of such initiatives. The Information Ministry has been organizing the international roundtable Consonance, the international symposium Writer and Time for many years in a row,” the ministry stressed. The Belarusian delegation presented a copy of the book Castles of Belarus and a collection of Francysk Skaryna's works translated in different languages to Tomislav Nikolic.

The Serbian leader noted that it is important to not only preserve, but also strengthen the spiritual and moral foundations of the friendship between Belarus and Serbia.

Tomislav Nikolic said that when he was elected President, he first visited Brussels and then went to Belarus. When asked to comment on his foreign policy priorities, the Serbian head of state called for removing the sanctions against Belarus and developing constructive relations with this country. “We remember the visit of the Belarusian leader to Belgrade in the difficult days of NATO's bombing. The people of Serbia will never forget it,” Tomislav Nikolic said.

The parties noted that the warm relations between the Belarusian and Serbian heads of state are a strong factor in the development of the cooperation between the two countries.
