Belarus invites Russia's Sochi to boost exchange of undergraduate tourism students

SOCHI, 18 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Education Minister Igor Karpenko met with Sochi Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov on 18 October, BelTA has learned.

Igor Karpenko remarked that Sochi and Belarusian cities boast a well-developed tourism infrastructure which also includes health resorts. Student exchange would be useful for students who would like to share experience and undertake internships. In this respect, the minister called for closer contacts between the universities training specialists in tourism. “Student exchange could be interesting from the standpoint of educational programs and training of highly qualified specialists – candidates and doctors of sciences,” he said.

The education minister also suggested strengthening cooperation at the level of student summer work teams. Young people from Sochi could make part of joint teams, including the Belarus-Russia-Ukraine one which was engaged in the construction of various facilities in Minsk in the past years. Anatoly Pakhomov supported the initiatives of the Belarusian minister. “These are the right things to do,” he underlined.

The sides also touched upon the prospects for devising a Union State program to support gifted young people and exchange talented school students. For instance, the Belarusian ones are interested in aerospace research. Igor Karpenko and Anatoly Pakhomov also discussed the 19th installation of the World Festival of Youth in Students taking place in Sochi these days. Igor Karpenko pointed to the festival's lively atmosphere and commended the advanced level of venues and other facilities at the event. The festival offers young people from different countries an opportunity to network, which is essential in today's restless world, the minister noted. In turn, he invited Sochi's young people to attend another international youth forum, Friendship Without Borders, in Belarus' national children's educational and health center Zubryonok.

The 2017 World Festival of Youth and Students is due to run through 22 October. It is expected to become the largest event in the area of international youth interaction and gather over 20,000 people from most countries. A daisy with petals of different colors has been chosen as the festival's symbol. It represents the continuity of traditions, connections that span generations, peace and unity of the entire international community. Colored pixels play a major part as a token of unity of all the young people in the world in the age of information technologies. The festival is meant to consolidate young people of the world, encourage interethnic and intercultural cooperation.
