MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov chaired a meeting to discuss ways to develop the WorldSkills International movement in Belarus on 14 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the government.
The head of government noted that Belarus has been invited to take part in the world's largest vocational skills competition WorldSkills in Kazan, Russia in 2019. “I should emphasize that the goals of the WorldSkills movement are fully in tune with the tasks that we are addressing in the education sector, which include to raise the quality of professional training, improve career guidance, and promote blue-collar jobs. This is a good opportunity for finding and supporting the most capable young specialists. It is not by chance that the WorldSkills competitions are sometimes called ‘the Olympics for blue-collar workers',” the prime minister stressed.
Andrei Kobyakov noted that in 2018, Belarus will hold the third national championship of vocational skills in accordance with the WorldSkills rules and standards. He emphasized that the national championship should fully demonstrate the capacities of the educational system and its partners, industrial enterprises. “It is also a good opportunity to encourage the younger generation to go into modern blue-collar professions. We need a targeted information campaign, and it must begin now. This work should involve enterprises, private business,” Andrei Kobyakov said.
He noted that one of the goals of WorldSkills is to raise the training standards. “It is very important for us. The participation of our enterprises, private business in the WorldSkills program is one of the areas for improving the quality of professional training,” the head of government noted.
