Belarus' Interior Ministry: Inflow of forced migrants from Ukraine is subsiding

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – The migrant inflow from southeast Ukraine is subsiding, Belarusian Deputy Interior Minister Nikolai Melchenko told reporters on 26 May, BelTA has learned.

“Some 14,000 Ukrainian nationals applied for employment in Belarus in 2015. In 2014, the figure stood at around 18,000,” Nikolai Melchenko noted.

He hopes that if the Minsk agreements fail and the situation in southeast Ukraine deteriorates, the common sense will prevail and the fragile peace minimizing risks in the conflict zone will hold.

The Interior Ministry of Belarus said that the labor migration situation in the country is changing. In 2015, Belarus received labor migrants mainly from Ukraine (14,045), China (7,225), the Russian Federation (2,209), Uzbekistan (1,707), Turkey (656), and Lithuania (637).
