Belarus-initiated photo exhibition celebrating family opens in Geneva

MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – A photo exhibition titled as Family at the Heart of United Nations opened at the UN Office at Geneva on Belarus' initiative on 23 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event was organized by the diplomatic missions of the countries that are members of the Group of Friends of the Family. It was aimed at supporting the role of the family as the natural unit of society.

Yuri Ambrazevich, Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, stressed the important positive contribution of the family to the effort to achieve sustainable development and the vital role of the family in protecting the rights of its members, especially in supporting people with disabilities. The heads of the diplomatic missions of Russia and Egypt in Geneva also spoke at the opening ceremony.

Participants of the event reiterated the commitment of the Group of Friends of the Family to continuous work to protect and support the family, including in the United Nations Human Rights Council, and called for joining the efforts of countries and the non-governmental sector to keep family-related matters high on the international agenda.

The opening ceremony was attended by diplomats, representatives of NGOs, and participants of the event on the protection of the family and the role of the family in supporting the protection and promotion of human rights of persons with disabilities held on 23 February. The photo exhibition will run till 3 March.
