MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Finland will develop cooperation in environmental activities. The matter was discussed at the talks between Belarus' Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Andrei Khudyk and a parliamentary delegation of Finland led by head of the friendship group with Belarus, member of the faction of the National Coalition Party Wille Rydman, BelTA learned from the press service of the ministry.
The parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation between Belarus and Finland in the environmental sector. The sides highly appreciated the level of cooperation between the two countries in this area. At present, the interaction between the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and the Finnish side has been mainly developing in accordance with international projects implemented through the Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership, the Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission, the Union of the Baltic Cities Sustainable Cities Commission. Among leading partners in the implementation of international projects in Belarus are the Finnish environmental organizations and the John Nurminen Foundation.
The parties talked over ways of developing bilateral cooperation between the relevant nature protection agencies of Belarus and Finland with a view to effectively solving environmental issues in the Baltic Sea region, and also creating conditions to attract advanced world technologies in the field of environmental protection in Belarus.
“The participants of the meeting paid special attention to the issues of safe use of nuclear energy. The parties agreed that nuclear energy is the clean energy of the future, the main advantage of which is environmental friendliness and efficiency, provided that it is used in the right way. They agreed that the ecology has no borders and is outside the politics, while the establishment of closer cooperation between countries in the field of environmental protection will allow the people become closer to each other and help resolve issues in other sectors,” the ministry said.
