Belarus' embassy in Russia joins search for missing Belarusian kayakers in Karelia

MOSCOW, 10 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian embassy in Russia has joined the search for the missing Belarusian kayakers in Karelia, BelTA learned from the press service of the embassy.

“According to the information provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Karelia, a search has been launched for three Belarusian nationals who went missing in the area of the Shuya River. The office of the Belarusian embassy in St Petersburg is in contact with the Russian law-enforcers on the matter,” the diplomatic mission informed.

According to the recent media reports, three Belarusians went to Karelia by car in late July. They planned a kayaking trip on the Shuya River. They planned to return home on 4 August and were last contacted on 25 July.

A daughter of one of the missing Belarusians addressed the internal affairs department of Minsk's Sovetsky residential area and also the Russian law-enforcers for help.
