Belarus, Ecuador sign agreement on mutual recognition of education certificates

MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Ecuador have signed an agreement on mutual recognition of education certificates and diplomas of higher education. The signing ceremony took place in Minsk on 22 May, BelTA has learned.

“In the field of education, we are currently at the initial implementation stage of a number of agreements. We have a basic intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in higher education, science, technology, and innovations. Now we have signed an agreement on mutual recognition of documents in education,” Belarusian Education Minister Igor Karpenko told the media.

The minister said that such agreements help intensify the cooperation processes in the global education space and contribute to the implementation of the agreements reached at the high political level.

Igor Karpenko noted that the number of students from Ecuador at Belarusian universities is gradually increasing. As many as 26 Ecuadorian students attended universities in Belarus two years ago, and now the number stands at 49. “The number is not very high compared to other countries. However, this agreement opens new cooperation prospects for us. This includes exchanges of teaching staff, cooperation in teaching students in Belarus, the opportunity to do internships in Ecuador, and many other areas,” Igor Karpenko specified.

For his part, Ambassador of Ecuador to Belarus Carlos Humberto Larrea Davila noted that many Belarusians are working in Ecuador today: geological exploration specialists, oilfield development and oil production specialists. “Our task was to ensure recognition of the degrees and qualifications of these specialists in Ecuador,” he said.

The diplomat emphasized that Ecuador would like to see more young Ecuadorians among the students of Belarusian universities.
