Belarus, China's Shandong Province to set up joint research laboratory

MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) and the Laser Research Institute of the Shandong Academy of Sciences will set up a joint research laboratory. The relevant agreement was signed during the visit of a Chinese delegation to the NASB on 25 September, BelTA learned from the NASB press service.

The document envisages a number of contracts in laser physics.

The NASB, the Shandong Academy of Sciences and Jinan's municipal government also signed a trilateral memorandum of cooperation. According to the document, Belarusian and Chinese scientists will outline research priorities, discuss establishment of new joint laboratories and identify projects of mutual interest in order to develop the relevant technical and industrial areas.

“The NASB is actively engaged in joint activities with Chinese scientific organizations. President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Bai Chunli is a foreign member of the NASB. We have now started to cooperate with China's regions. We hope that the new memorandum will help bring the cooperation between Belarusian and Chinese scientist to a new level,” First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Sergei Chizhik said.

Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR) and the Shandong Computer Science Center also signed an agreement to set up a joint Belarusian-Chinese laboratory on 25 September.

The delegation of China's Shandong Province headed by Jinan's Deputy Mayor Wang Guiying is visiting the NASB on 24-25 September. The aim of the visit is to discuss promising areas of cooperation between the academies of sciences and ways to enhance it. The delegation visited NASB scientific organizations, including V.A. Biely Metal-Polymer Research Institute (Gomel), B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics, the Center of LED and Optoelectronic Technologies.
