Belarus attends WEF Sustainable Development Impact Summit in New York

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation led by Vice Speaker of the Council of the Republic, National Coordinator for SDGs Marianna Shchetkina attended the World Economic Forum (WEF) Sustainable Development Impact Summit in New York, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of Belarusian Parliament.

"On 25 September the vice speaker took part in the high-level general debate of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly. Marianna Shchetkina also participated in the second day of the summit. During the roundtable on combating slavery she made a report on Belarus' national efforts to combat human trafficking and the country's contribution to the international anti-trafficking efforts," the press service noted.

Marianna Shchetkina held talks with ILO Director-General Guy Ryder on the margins of the summit.

The WEF Sustainable Development Impact Summit was held in New York on 24-25 September and was timed to coincide with the opening of the 73rd session of the UN GA. Belarus attended it for the first time.

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the World Economic Forum (WEF) is a non-governmental organization that unites more than 1,000 companies and corporations. WEF organizes the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters bringing together the heads of state and leading corporations, prominent economic analysts and journalists.
