Belarus attends SCO cultural heritage summer camp in China

MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation is taking part in the second summer camp on intangible cultural heritage of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on 11-17 August, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Beijing.

The opening ceremony took place at the Chinese capital during the 10th China International Youth Arts Festival. Attending the event were representatives of the Chinese Culture Ministry, the Beijing City Hall, member states, observers and dialogue partners of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Belarus is represented at the event by the Mogilev Oblast Center of Arts and Crafts and Cultural and Enlightenment Activities. Belarus held a presentation of intangible heritage of Mogilev Oblast inscribed into the state list of historical and cultural values of Belarus. The Belarusian delegation showed off the traditional colors and history of the arts and crafts of Mogilev Oblast and Belarus in general.

The Belarusian exhibition featured pottery, clay toys, artworks made of straw (caskets, baskets, trays, dolls, straw applications), towels, gifts and one of the main elements of the ethnic culture – a traditional national costume of the 19th century.

Taking part in the events are more than 20 craftsmen from ten countries, including China, Russia, Iran, Turkey and other SCO member states and observers. The major goal of the event is to get familiar with intangible cultural heritage of the countries, exhibitions, and experience sharing seminars. For instance, Russia displayed the Belgorod national costume and products from white clay, Iran showcased silver goods (tableware, jewelry, souvenirs), China put on how its decorated vases, while Cambodia displayed buddhish items.

Belarusian and other participants are currently taking part in the events of the summer camp which are taking place in Guizhou Province.
