Belarus and Russia to draw up environmental roadmap

MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia will draw up a roadmap of environmental activities to revitalize the Union State construction. Specific proposals are planned to be discussed at a joint panel of the appropriate ministries of the two countries in Minsk this year, BelTA has learned from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus.

Belarus' Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrei Khudyk and Russian Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergei Yastrebov held a meeting in Yerevan on the sidelines of the 5th meeting of the CIS Interstate Environmental Council. The parties praised the cooperation in the field of environmental protection and environmental management, both as part of bilateral agreements and within the framework of the Union State.

The Union State Committee on Hydrometeorology and Monitoring of Environmental Pollution has been cited as one of the examples of successful work. The parties have implemented joint measures to develop the hydrometeorological safety system aimed at improving the protection of industries from the negative impact of natural phenomena and adapting to climate change.

Specific attention was attached to the status of preparation of a draft concept of the Union State science and technology program "Development of modern technologies of geological study, rational and environmentally safe use of resources of Russia and Belarus.”
