Augustow Canal Park gearing up to welcome 10,000th visa-free tourist

GRODNO, 17 April (BelTA) - The Augustow Canal Park is gearing up to welcome the10,000th visa-free tourist, BelTA learned from Oleg Andreichik, the head of the sport and tourism department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee.

With the commencement of Decree No. 318 about 9,600 foreign travelers have taken the advantage of the visa-free regulations and visited the Augustow Canal Park without visas. “This week we expect to celebrate the 10,000th tourist. We are clarifying who this person is and what checkpoint he/she is going to enter the country,” Oleg Andreichik noted.

With the beginning of the spring season, the number of visa-free tourists visiting the Augustow Canal and its surroundings, including the regional center, has been growing. From 10 to 16 April, the Augustow Canal Park was visited by about 1,000 foreigners. About 700 people visited the park on Saturday, which is a new record for the weekend.

Decree No. 318 of the Belarusian head of state on the introduction of visa-free travel to the Augustow Canal for foreigners came into force on 26 October. The document permits foreign nationals to stay on the territory of the park and its surroundings for a period of up to five days.
