Atomenergomash makes internals for second reactor of Belarusian nuclear power plant

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – The Russian company AEM Technologies (part of Atomenergomash, which is the mechanical engineering division of the Russian state corporation Rosatom) has sent on their way VVER-1200 reactor in-vessel devices for the second power-generating unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, the Atomenergomash press service told BelTA.

The in-vessel devices include a reflection shield, a number of protective pipes, and an in-vessel shaft. All the components were made by the Atommash branch of AEM Technologies Company. They weigh over 210 tonnes.

AEM Technologies Company has made over 50 kinds of equipment for the two power-generating units of the Belarusian nuclear power plant such as core catchers, reactor pressure vessels, the upper block, a shaft, a reflection shield, a block of protective pipes, sets of steam generators, main circulation pumps, main circulation pipes, and other kinds of equipment. In 2013-2017 over 4,000 tonnes of equipment was made and shipped.

The reactor is a vertical cylinder with an elliptical bottom. The reactor core and the in-vessel components are located inside. The reactor is covered by a hermetically sealing lid. The lid is connected with the vessel using double-end bolts. The upper part of the reactor pressure vessel contains pipes to feed and drain the heat transfer agent as well as pipes to feed the heat transfer agent in case the pipe circuit depressurizes.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is built using the Russian standard Generation III+ design AES-2006 near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
