Another batch of equipment on way to Belarusian nuclear power plant construction site

MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) – The Russian company Power Machines has sent a stator for a turbine generator with the output capacity of 1,200MW to the Belarusian nuclear power plant, representatives of the Russian company told BelTA.

The package of equipment weighs nearly 500 tonnes since apart from the stator it also includes transportation and installation equipment. The equipment is being shipped by rail and is supposed to arrive at the construction site in late October 2016.

So far the Russian company has made and shipped most of the turbine and heat exchange equipment the first power-generating unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant will need. Operations to install the turbine of the first power-generating unit are in progress at the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction site. Equipment for the second power-generating unit is being delivered in parallel.

The contract to make primary equipment for the machine hall of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was signed in 2012. Under the contract Power Machines will make and ship two sets of turbine plants for the Belarusian nuclear power plant, including two 1,200MW high-speed steam turbines, condensers and auxiliary equipment in addition to two 1,200MW turbine generators and auxiliary equipment. Apart from that, Power Machines specialists will provide supervised installation services.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a VVER-1200 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW).

The Russian company Power Machines has been designing and making high-tech equipment for nuclear power plants for over 40 years. At present Power Machines is the only Russian company that can supply a full set of primary thermal and mechanical equipment for the turbine island of nuclear power plants.
