Anna Kovalevskaya of Belarus wins Commonwealth Warrior contest

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – The 9th international military competition Commonwealth Warrior among women was won by Private First Class of the Armed Forces Anna Kovalevskaya, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian placed atop in four of five stages of the contest. She was named the best in the competitions Erudite, Sniper, Athlete and Professional. Second placed Junior Sergeant of Russia Lilia Dautova. Third was Junior Sergeant of Kazakhstan Armed Forces Lyudmila Gubareva.

The best in the men's contest was named Junior Sergeant of Kazakhstan's Armed Forces Orynbek Sandybekov. Representative of the Belarusian Armed Forces Artyom Pushnev placed second, with bronze going to Senior Sergeant of the Belarusian Armed Forces Sergei Chernov.

Belarus' Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Andrei Ravkov, speaking at the Commonwealth Warrior awards ceremony, noted that the participants competed in military skills and also visited the sacred places of Belarus. “The contest is a clear evidence of developing and strengthening cooperation between the armed forces of the CIS member states. I am confident that our comradeship-in-arms will continue developing for the same of security and peace, friendship and wellbeing of our peoples and countries,” said Andrei Ravkov.

The winners and medalists of the contest received medals, diplomas, valuable prizes and gifts.

The military of the CIS member states also visited the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, the Khatyn Memorial, the National Library and the historical and cultural center Stalin Line.

On 26 July-5 August Belarus played host to the final of the 9th international military competition Commonwealth Warrior. Taking part in the competition were servicemen of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia. Every team consisted from four servicemen: three men and one woman. The program of the international competition included the following stages: Athlete, Professional, Sniper, Erudite and Cavalier (Lady).
