MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – About 130 foreign specialists are employees of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, said Alexander Yerin, Deputy Head of the Education and Training Center of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, during the online conference hosted by the BelTA website on 6 December.

According to the source, the company in charge of operating the future Belarusian nuclear power plant now employs over 130 foreign specialists, whose skills, experience, and knowledge are actively borrowed by Belarusian specialists. The foreign specialists mainly came from Russia and Ukraine.

Virtually all the personnel to operate the central control room of the first power-generating unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant have been hired. There is no need to hire more specialists like that for now. “But foreign specialists may be employed to fill in important positons if experienced personnel are in short supply. Training Belarusian specialists is the priority now,” pointed out the official.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is expected to employ a total of 2,321 specialists.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is built using the Russian standard Generation III+ design AES-2006 near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
