Abbasov: Every country is free to decide whether to use nuclear power

ASHGABAT, 29 November (BelTA) – Every country is free to decide whether to use nuclear power, Azerbaijan Deputy Energy Minister Natiq Abbasov told BelTA on the margins of the Energy Charter Conference running in Ashkhabad on 28-29 November.

The deputy minister stressed that many states in various regions of the world, including in Europe, operate nuclear power plants, and nuclear power is used effectively. He noted that Azerbaijan has sufficient hydrocarbon reserves, and therefore the country has no need in nuclear power.

Speaking about the interaction between Belarus and Azerbaijan, he said: “We are brother countries. We have a good relationship. We will hardly have any problems. The leaders of Belarus and Azerbaijan are friends. The effective cooperation between the states is built accordingly.”

The themes of mobilizing investments for a sustainable energy future and diversifying supply routes are on the agenda of the 28th session of the International Energy Charter conference which is running in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on 28-29. According to Chairman of the Energy Charter Conference, Deputy Chairman of the Turkmenistan Cabinet of Ministers Maksat Babayev, the conference participants had constructive discussions on the issues of sustainable energy investments, reliable transit and diversifying supply routes and energy sources. The states also laid out their vision of the upcoming modernization of the Energy Charter Treaty.
