75 apple trees to be planted in Trostenets to commemorate the start of Great Patriotic War

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – As many as 75 apple trees will be planted at Trostenets Memorial in Minsk, Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the BRSM Youth Union Sergei Klishevich told BelTA.

The youth campaign to plant apple tree seedlings will be held on 4 May to mark the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Partaking in the event will be around 150 members of volunteer labor brigades from all regions of Belarus and also representatives of the Central Committee of the BRSM Youth Union, including First Secretary Andrei Belyakov.

The participants of the campaign will lay flowers at the Eternal Flame and observe a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Trostenets extermination camp.

The campaign will be held as part of the national patriotic project Flowers of the Great Victory. The project was launched on the initiative of the BRSM Youth Union five years ago. The large-scale campaign is aimed at strengthening the unity of the Belarusian nation, bringing people closer together and paying tribute to the courage and bravery of those who struggled for the liberation of the country from Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War.

An apple-tree flower with a green and red ribbon is the symbol of the project. Apple blossom symbolizes the continuity of generations and heartfelt gratitude to the defenders of the Belarusian land.
