MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – It is necessary to encourage young Belarusian scientists towards researching ideas of immediate interest, which are in demand. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko set the goal as he presented certificates of professors and doctors of sciences to scientists and pedagogues on 12 February, BelTA has learned.
According to the head of state, the Supreme Personnel Review Board, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Education Ministry, universities and other higher education institutions should improve the effectiveness of postgraduate studies. Future scientists should be encouraged to explore topical areas of immediate interest.
Alexander Lukashenko underlined that the development of doctoral programs as an important stage in the career of scientists needs close attention. “When you choose research areas for research papers and research projects, you have to bear in mind the areas, which hold promise for the republic. At present we have a shortage of scientific personnel in a number of highly-sought specializations,” said the head of state.
The President remarked that for the sake of successful operation of every industry central government agencies should wisely plan, support, and oversee the training of the relevant top-qualified personnel.
The training of the younger generation of researchers should be continuous. It should involve all the stages of the education system from selecting talented university students to their close oversight in postgraduate studies.
“The experience of recent years indicates that we are capable of handling even the most complicated tasks. We have a smoothly operating system to train scientific personnel and we continue improving it,” emphasized the President. In 2015 alone as many as 48 people became doctors of sciences, 513 people became candidates of sciences. As many as 50 people received professor degrees and nearly 400 people received associate professor degrees.
“In this hall I can see scientists, who have made a noticeable contribution to the advancement of promising areas of research such as medicine, mechanical engineering, physics, mathematics, agriculture, biology, history, sociology, psychology, economy and other ones. Your accomplishments are needed and have already been put into practice in Belarus and abroad,” noted Alexander Lukashenko.
The head of state congratulated those present on their new scientific degrees and titles. He wished them success, happiness, new accomplishments and promising pupils.
