President wants all power supplies restored in Belarus within a day

MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) – All power supplies should be restored by the end of the day, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said on 15 January as he heard out a report on the measures taken to tackle the consequences of Cyclone Daniella, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko set forth a number of key tasks in mitigating the consequences of the snowstorm. He first of all demanded to restore all power supplies and put all customers affected by Cyclone Daniella back on supply before the day ends.

The head of state wondered how it had happened that almost 1,500 villages, up to 70 boilers, more than 300 agricultural farms, as well as 84 schools, kindergartens and healthcare facilities were cut off power.

“For how long are we going to have trees falling on power grids? Did we face a devastating tornado that brought down street lighting posts and power lines? How many power lines have been damaged by falling trees!” the head of state said.

The recent blizzard tested all the country's transport, energy and utility services. The President emphasized that people responsible for these sectors, and especially power engineers, should work hard in order to prevent any consequences of bad weather.
