Lukashenko: You can challenge the authorities in Belarus only at elections

MOGILEV, 22 July (BelTA) – You can challenge the authorities in Belarus only at elections, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the meeting with the personnel of Mogilevliftmash on 22 July, BelTA has learned.

“What concerns security, you should not be concerned about it. But please do not overcriticize me for the tough policy. Although it is not too tough,” the head of state said. “We do not silence anyone. If you want to criticize anyone or reprove anyone, please do it in a proper way at an enterprise. You hold meetings for these purposes where you can say everything you want. No one will try to keep you silent. You can openly express your opinion.”

According to Alexander Lukashenko, it makes no sense to discuss certain social and political issues in a private manner. “Never be afraid of anything, tell me about anyone, but remember that a “war” (against the president and the government like in Turkey) can be only during elections. At the parliamentary elections you can vote for any candidates you want. You can do the same at the presidential elections. I am saying it sincerely and I will guarantee it. A person should have a chance to speak openly,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

The head of state noted that if a group of people tries to cause a disturbance, the authorities will respond immediately. “Otherwise, we will have what they have in Armenia and Kazakhstan. We do not need it. This is a malady. If it afflicts the society, it starts to grow very quickly like a tumor. And then much efforts, money, and, God forbid, people's lives will be needed to suppress it,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
