Lukashenko: We will liberalize the economy while maintaining controllability

MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) – It is necessary to liberalize the economy to an extent that still allows maintaining controllability. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement while talking to MPs after he delivered an address to the nation and the parliament on 21 April, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to liberalize things to an extent that still allows some degree of controllability. I've been thinking recently whether the approach is behind the times and whether I am playing it too safe. You tell me,” the head of state told the MPs. “The [package of] documents [on liberalizing business operation terms] have not been signed or adopted. But if you support my point of view that we need controllability, we will reach an agreement.”

The Belarus president admitted that he treats such matters very seriously and is accustomed to handling them carefully due to his life experience. This is why liberalization steps will be made. At the same time it is important not to lose controllability in the country, said Alexander Lukashenko.
