Lukashenko urges to optimize training of coaches in Belarus

MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) – The system of training of coaches requires optimization, Belarus President, President of the National Olympic Committee Alexander Lukashenko said at the Olympic Assembly on 30 May, BelTA has learned.

“We have to pay huge money to foreign coaches. I am not against using someone else's best practices. They can work as consultants. But there should be Belarusian specialists around them,” the Belarusian leader said.

“The system of training of coaches requires optimization. Frankly speaking, this issue is long overdue. Hundreds of coaches graduate from our universities. There is the Higher School of Coaches, the institute of retraining and professional advancement. Where are excellent specialists?! We also need to analyze the efficiency of training there,” Alexander Lukashenko remarked.

In his words, the new rector of the Belarusian State University of Physical Education who has been also elected the vice president of the National Olympic Committee should deal with this issue.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, perhaps it is needed to invite more foreign teachers to Belarusian universities or send Belarusian specialists to study abroad. “We need an integrated system of continuous training and professional advancement for coaches,” the head of state said. “Your task is to look for young athletes who can work as coaches and help them reach the summit in coaching.”
