Lukashenko urges to improve agricultural production in northern regions of Belarus

MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – It is necessary to improve the structure of agricultural production in northern regions of Belarus, President Alexander Lukashenko said on 12 May when appointing new heads of local administration bodies, BelTA informs.

Alexander Lukashenko was interested in the situation in rural areas, especially in Vitebsk Oblast, because of weather conditions. The president was informed that the situation is rather difficult because of precipitation and cold weather which have a negative influence on the speed of the sowing campaign. At the same time, the weather conditions did not do much harm to the areas under crops.

“Of course, you must sow as quickly as possible, but quality is a priority. First of all, this pertains to Vitebsk Oblast,” the head of state said. “However, the main thing is that we should change the crop rotation system. More grain can be grown in certain regions of Vitebsk Oblast. In other regions it is needed to choose separate fields to make feed compounds for cattle. Other lands should be used to grow grass and then produce milk.”

According to the president, the most appropriate and efficient crop rotation systems should be used in different regions. Another instruction envisages the active application of modern fodder storage technologies.

“I will put serious pressure on you. I talked to Governor Sherstnev in the morning. We should change crop rotation systems as soon as possible. This is my strong conviction. We must learn to produce good fodder and beef. The production of high-quality milk is a very profitable business,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
