MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) – It is essential to preserve peace and comfortable life of people in the country; government bodies should do their best to maintain the public order acting in strict compliance with the Constitution, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the session to discuss public security on 23 March, BelTA has learned.
“Today we are able to preserve peace and accord in our country, we are not afraid of anything or anyone,” the President stressed. “Let's discuss the current situation. I am greatly concerned about the information I get. We do not give all the information to mass media (just a small part so as not to scare people).”
“We will discuss the entire spectrum of information and measures which have been taken as part of our anti-terrorism efforts, and will make corresponding conclusions. I reiterate that we will act in compliance with the law without threatening anyone,” Alexander Lukashenko remarked.
The head of state said that a decision was made to hold an open session today. “I think that we should not conceal anything from anyone. We should discuss the issues concerning our people and, of course, concerning us in an honest and open way,” he said.
In this context, Alexander Lukashenko disproved the opinion popular in certain circles that the authorities start threatening people when they anticipate some unwanted events. “I know some people hold such crazy opinions. I want to tell these people that the government is not afraid of anyone. This especially pertains to the president. We pursue an honest and sincere policy,” the head of state said.
He emphasized that the authorities protected the country from being looted and torn apart. “We did not give away assets although certain people within and especially outside the country want to lay their hands on. We are committed to the policy which we promised to pursue during the presidential election,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “Nevertheless, it is unpleasant to hear that we are threatening someone. I want to say that we are not threatening and will not threaten anyone. We will strictly observe the laws and the Constitution of the country.”
“We are not trying to silence anyone, but any violations of the law will be severely punished,” the Belarusian leader said.
The President remarked that peace and order are maintained in the country, and people feel safe. “It does not come easily. If we disturb this order, tomorrow the situation will be the same as the situation faced by our neighbors. If some people want it (maybe only a few people in the country), they should understand that we will, I am not threatening anyone, call them to order. This is the topic of today's conversation,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
